More than 17 million people are expected to travel with Trenitalia during the spring long weekends connected to the holidays of April 25th and May 1st. Nearly half of these travelers, 47%, have purchased their tickets through digital channels, marking a 5% increase compared to 2023 purchases on the site and app. The bookings, led by Luigi Corradi and the Passenger Hub of the FS Group, show a 2.5% growth compared to the previous year, reflecting the conscious choice of Italians to use the train as a sustainable and green mode of transportation for their trips.

Italian cities of art such as Florence, Naples, Rome, and Venice are driving bookings for both long-distance trains like Frecce and Intercity, as well as for regional trains. Switzerland is among the most popular foreign destinations reachable from Italy, while regions like Puglia, Liguria, Sicily, and Calabria are favored by those seeking seaside getaways. The number of travelers heading to villages is also on the rise.

Frecciarossa, known for its excellence in Italian rail service, is increasing its connections and available seats to provide a more frequent and convenient service to passengers during the spring long weekends. Additional connections will be activated between Milan and Pescara, as well as Milan and Calabria, on specific dates to meet the high demand. Extraordinary departures are scheduled for some Frecciarossa trains traveling between Milan, Rome, and Naples to accommodate more travelers.

Intercity Notte, which allows passengers to travel overnight and arrive at their destination early in the morning, will make over 2,700 additional seats available on certain routes during the spring holidays. Trenitalia Regional trains are popular choices for visiting cities of art and villages, offering combined train and bus services to reach destinations not served by train.

Trenitalia is committed to environmental sustainability and has integrated “Ecopassenger” into its sales systems, allowing travelers to compare the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of train journeys with other modes of transportation. A survey for Trenitalia shows that 86% of travelers choose the train because it is less polluting, reflecting the growing importance of environmental considerations in travel choices.
