On April 29, 2024, Sara Swanson added content to the Klager Elementary School website about the recent Around the World with Math and Science Night event. Melissa Yekulis, a teacher at the school, submitted the content. The event took place on April 26 and was a collaborative effort between Klager and high school volunteers. Families who attended were exposed to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning in the Klager cafeteria.

During the event, children had the opportunity to learn about various topics from around the world. They explored the science behind growing food in the Arctic, the discovery of popcorn in Peru, and the invention of sorbet in China. Technology was showcased by the Klager K-12 robotics teams, and children practiced their engineering skills with K’Nex sets invented in the United States. An art show preview was on display around the cafeteria, and children also participated in a make and take activity to create notebooks, which were first invented in Australia. Math skills were tested as children learned about the invention of lollipops in Spain and competed in a challenging math game, Mancala, created in Africa.

Title 1 was present at the event to educate families on reading around Michigan through children’s books written by Michigan authors and Michigan products. MI Future Funds provided information on college planning and saving. At the end of the night, children voted for their favorite station, with the Robotics Teams winning the title. Families of all ages enjoyed the interactive and engaging event, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.
