Students from Kelly Walsh High School and CY Middle School recently traveled to Washington to represent Wyoming at the National Science Bowl Championship. This year, Kelly Walsh High School secured a first-place win as the 2024 Wyoming Regional High School Science Bowl champion for the fifth consecutive year. Throughout the year, the KW Science Club holds mock science bowls to sharpen their skills and prepare for competitions. The members must think quickly and utilize their critical thinking skills to answer questions accurately.

Meanwhile, CY Middle School students are also involved in seeking scientific knowledge through the school’s STEM Club and Science Olympiad competitions. All year long, 115 regional high school and middle school teams competed for a chance to reach the National Finals. Ultimately, 67 high school and 48 middle school teams made it to the finals where they competed for the title of National Champions. Despite their efforts, Casper’s teams were eliminated before the final rounds took place.

The National Science Bowl Finals officially began with positive remarks from Department of Energy Office of Science Acting Director, Dr. Harriet Kung. She expressed excitement for the event and highlighted the importance of nurturing the innovative minds of young students. The top two middle and high school teams were set to win $5,000 for their schools’ math and science departments. Additionally, schools that placed in the top 16 would receive $1,000 for their departments.
