Florida Democrats React to Ongoing Assault on Children’s Healthcare as DeSantis Removes 22,000 Kids from Florida KidCare

The Florida Democratic Party has expressed concerns about the lawsuit filed by the DeSantis administration that could potentially impact the health care coverage of children nationwide. FDP Chair Nikki Fried criticized Governor Ron DeSantis for prioritizing legal action over the well-being of Florida’s children. She highlighted that over 22,000 children have been removed from Florida KidCare, a program that provides health insurance coverage for children in need.

Fried emphasized that these actions affect children with serious medical conditions such as cancer and cerebral palsy, who rely on expensive medications for their health. By suing the federal government to block new provisions that protect children’s health care coverage, the DeSantis administration is jeopardizing the well-being of millions of children across America. Florida is currently the only state involved in the lawsuit, with no other states joining DeSantis in his legal battle.

While the Biden-Harris administration is working to improve the affordability and accessibility of health care for all children, the Florida Republicans are focused on cutting coverage for the most vulnerable children. Fried urged Florida voters to re-elect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election to ensure federal protections for health care remain in place. Ultimately, the well-being of children should be the top priority, and political disputes should not come at the expense of children’s health.
