Ford is recalling more than 450,000 compact SUVs and pickup trucks in the United States due to a battery issue that may cause a loss of drive power, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated in an alert. The affected models include Ford Bronco Sport SUVs manufactured from 2021 to 2024 and Ford Maverick pickups made from 2022 to 2023, totaling 456,565 units.

The NHTSA noted that Ford discovered that an undetected low battery charge could lead to a loss of electrical accessories like hazard lights or a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of an accident. Ford stated to CNN, “We are committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of our customers. Safety is a top priority, and we are taking proactive measures to address this issue promptly and effectively.”

The issue can be resolved by owners bringing their vehicles to a Ford dealership, where the body control module and power train control modules will be recalibrated at no cost. Alternatively, customers can utilize Ford’s mobile service for pickup and delivery of the fix. Notification letters will be sent out by May 13, and affected individuals can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. The recall number is 24S24.
