Ellsworth, Maine will be participating in Jane’s Walk this year along with over 500 cities worldwide. This will be the third year that Ellsworth has taken part in this global event. Jane’s Walk was started in 2006 in Toronto to honor the late writer and activist, Jane Jacobs, who was passionate about building up communities.
In Ellsworth, there will be two walks taking place on Saturday. The first walk, which focuses on nature, will start at 10:00 a.m. at the River Walk North trail head behind the Ellsworth Public Library. The second walk, centered around historical Ellsworth, will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Old Burial Grounds on State Street.
Heart of Ellsworth has partnered with GrowSmart Maine and the Ellsworth Historical Society to organize these walks. The goal is to encourage people to connect with their community and develop a sense of pride for where they live and work.
