The early produce train is a top priority for the State, and there will be a new call for expressions of interest to ensure the revival of the rail service at the Rungis market in Val-de-Marne. The announcement was made by Minister of Transport Patrice Vergriete on Wednesday evening in response to concerns raised by staff about the line’s future.
This train is a rail freight line that transports fruits and vegetables from the south of France, Spain, and Morocco to Rungis MIN, starting from Perpignan in Pyrénées-Orientales. It helps reduce traffic on the roads by avoiding around 80 trucks and decreases CO2 emissions by 44 tonnes per day. The train operates from mid-October to the end of June, taking a break during the off-peak summer period.
