The bill permits the Colorado Department of Education to partner with higher education institutions to offer free, optional professional development training to science educators in the state. The program aims to provide instruction on interventions for struggling students, including those below grade level, with disabilities, or who are English Language Learners.
Teachers who participate in the professional development program may earn credit towards license renewal, and rural school districts will be prioritized if demand for training exceeds capacity. The program is set to begin in the 2025-26 school year with the goal of improving K-12 science performance for Colorado students by equipping teachers with the tools and resources necessary to support students who need additional assistance.
