AirChat, a new social media app that was launched on Friday, quickly gained popularity and became the 23rd most popular app in the U.S. on Apple’s App Store by Monday. The app is currently available on an invite-only basis, leading to thousands of downloads and online requests for access.

AirChat is unique in that it focuses on voice communication, with users sending messages through voice notes that are simultaneously transcribed. Despite this innovative feature, the app’s design is similar to other social media platforms, allowing users to post, scroll through feeds, and message each other privately.

The app was founded by Naval Ravikant and Brian Norgard, who aim to differentiate AirChat from other social media apps by emphasizing the use of voice. Ravikant believes that human interaction is best facilitated through natural voice communication.

Voice technology is seen as the next revolutionary interface that will transform consumers’ lives. With advancements in voice recognition and the introduction of voice-driven devices, consumers are increasingly turning to voice for its ease, convenience, and speed compared to traditional typing or touchscreen methods.

In a recent example of voice technology integration, Volkswagen announced that it had integrated OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot into its IDA voice assistant, allowing customers to access a wide range of information while driving. Voice assistants have also made significant progress in other areas such as smart home integration, education, and business applications, with AI advancements enabling them to perform more complex tasks.
