Innovative Method Eliminates Need for Glasses After Cataract Surgery

Cataracts are a common cause of blindness, affecting over 60% of eye diseases and becoming increasingly prevalent among younger individuals. This condition, known as cataract, results in changes to the lens protein structure, leading to vision impairment. Patients may experience difficulty with daily tasks like driving and reading, eventually leading to blindness if left untreated. Surgical replacement of the natural lens with an artificial lens (IOL) is often necessary to restore vision.

In the past, cataract surgery only allowed patients to see clearly at far distances, requiring glasses for near vision. However, advancements in refractive phaco now enable patients to see clearly at all distances post-surgery. New generation IOLs, such as multifocal lenses, offer improved functionality by allowing light to focus at multiple points for near, intermediate, and far vision. This eliminates the need for additional glasses, providing more comfort and convenience for patients.

One such innovation is the asymmetric rotating refractive multifocal IOL, which offers many benefits to cataract patients. Manufactured using European technology, these lenses provide clear vision at all distances and allow for uninterrupted examination and intervention in patients with combined eye fundus diseases. As a result, over 60% of cataract patients undergoing surgery at certain hospitals opt for these advanced IOLs, which are eligible for health insurance benefits.
