Olympic organizers have announced their intention to incorporate artificial intelligence into sports, following the trend of utilizing advancing technology. The International Olympic Committee shared their plans to leverage AI, which includes identifying talented athletes, personalizing training methods, and enhancing fairness in judging during the games.

During a press event at the former London Olympic Park, IOC President Thomas Bach emphasized the importance of embracing change and being leaders in utilizing AI responsibly. The IOC’s AI strategy was unveiled as preparations for the Paris Olympics, slated to begin in less than 100 days, are underway.

In addition to improving judging and athlete identification, the IOC plans to use AI to safeguard athletes from online harassment and enhance the broadcast viewing experience for spectators at home. Given the significant revenue generated from broadcast rights sales, technological advancements are key in enhancing the Olympic Games.

The use of AI for security purposes in Paris, such as AI-powered cameras for monitoring potential threats like abandoned packages or crowd movements, has generated some controversy among local organizers. Despite the concerns, the IOC remains committed to utilizing AI strategically and responsibly to enhance the Olympic experience for athletes and spectators alike.
