The startup incubation studio Aegis Ventures has recently gained support from nine major health systems, including Northwell Health, Novant Health, Ochsner Health, and Stanford Health Care, who have joined the company’s Digital Consortium. This consortium, in partnership with the private equity firm that is the venture capital division of Aegis Capital Corp., aims to co-develop startups that address key challenges facing the healthcare industry.

Aegis believes that health system leaders are well positioned to identify opportunities for innovation within their organizations. By working closely with entrepreneurs and technologists, the consortium members will collaborate to create a network of companies specifically designed to meet the needs of health systems. John Noseworthy, M.D., former president and CEO of Mayo Clinic, will chair the consortium and oversee the strategic planning of each participating health system.

Northwell Health and Aegis have already been working together on this initiative for three years, resulting in the creation of several successful companies focused on patient engagement, women’s health, artificial intelligence diagnostics, workflow automation, and emotion analytics. The new members of the consortium were chosen through a rigorous evaluation process and collectively represent over $65 billion in operating revenue and employ more than 300,000 individuals.

The consortium is expected to continue growing in the future, according to John Beadle, Aegis Ventures co-founder and managing partner, who recently shared with Fierce Healthcare. This collaboration between health systems and the venture company aims to address the most critical quality, equity, and cost challenges facing the healthcare industry today.
