After serving as the Buffalo Bills radio announcer for an impressive 35 years, John Murphy has announced that he will be stepping away from play-by-play duties ahead of the 2024-25 season. The team made the announcement on Thursday, revealing that while Murphy will no longer be in the role of play-by-play announcer, he is leaving the door open to potentially be involved in game day broadcasts in a different capacity.

In an interview with WBEN radio, Murphy expressed his readiness to move on to a new chapter in his life. This decision comes as Murphy has been recovering from a stroke that sidelined him for the end of the 2022 season and the entirety of the 2023 season. In his absence, Chris Brown has taken over the play-by-play duties.

Throughout his tenure with the Bills, Murphy spent 16 years as a color analyst (1984-1989, 1994-2003) before transitioning to the play-by-play announcer role for the last 19 years (2004-2022). This marks the end of an era for Bills fans who have come to know and appreciate Murphy’s voice on the radio broadcast.
