After today’s session of the border demarcation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan, residents closed the Kirants-Ijeva and Baghanis-Noyemberyan sections, according to Narek Sahakyan, a Baghanis resident who informed “Freedom”. The shutting down of these sections was a response to the official statements made today, which contradict what Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had said in their village two days prior. There are plans for the residents to gather in the village tomorrow to decide on their next steps.

During the meeting of the delimitation commissions, Yerevan and Baku preliminarily agreed on separate parts of the border line to align it with the legally justified inter-republic border that existed at the time of the USSR’s collapse. The settlements involved in these agreements include Baghanis on the Armenian side, Baghanis Ayrum on the Azerbaijani side, Voskepar on the Armenian side, Ashagh Askipara on the Azerbaijani side, Kirants on the Armenian side, Khairemli on the Azerbaijani side, Berkaber on the Armenian side, and Kizil Hajili on the Azerbaijani side. Baku had demanded the immediate return of these villages in early March, claiming clear ownership over them.
