Legal solutions do not resolve issues with China

Congress is pushing for a change in ownership of the popular video platform Tiktok in order to eliminate Chinese influence in the USA. However, this approach is seen as too harsh and there are better ways to address the issues at hand. The sell and ban order proposed by lawmakers violates legal principles and may not effectively solve the problems associated with Tiktok.

While there are valid concerns about the Chinese company behind Tiktok and its potential political influence, the ban is not the most suitable solution. The lack of transparency regarding the recommendation algorithm on the app raises questions about how user data is being used and manipulated. The ban also brings up issues related to freedom of speech and interference with the free market economy, both of which are highly valued in the USA.

Relying on a ban as a strategy to address the problems with Tiktok is shortsighted and could have unintended consequences. It is important to consider more targeted measures to counter Chinese influence and address issues related to social media impact on mental health. Implementing strict regulations and monitoring mechanisms may be more effective in ensuring that Tiktok does not pose a threat to national security or democratic processes.

The ban on Tiktok could set a dangerous precedent for future trade wars and political maneuvering between the USA and China. The timing of the ultimatum, coinciding with a potential change in presidency, raises concerns about ulterior motives and personal gain. It is crucial to approach the issue with a more strategic and thoughtful mindset to ensure that the interests of the American people are protected and that the actions taken have positive long-term consequences.
