Students at Sinsheimer Elementary School in San Luis Obispo are participating in a hands-on learning experience with the Build-A-Business Club. Recently, the club collaborated with a local business, Junk Girls, to create and sell products to raise money for a community project.

After raising $1,500 through their product sales, the students worked with the Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo (ECOSLO) to plant three trees at Sinsheimer Park. This tree planting initiative took place on Arbor Day and was part of ECOSLO’s Urban Tree Planning program, “Keys for Trees.”

Genevieve Palazzo and Sophia Bastidas, both 5th graders at Sinsheimer Elementary, shared their excitement about the project. They were grateful for the support and involvement of Junk Girls and ECOSLO in helping them make a positive impact on the environment and the community.

Grant Helete, ECOSLO’s program coordinator, highlighted the organization’s commitment to working with schools and organizations for similar projects. The tree planting at Sinsheimer Park is part of San Luis Obispo’s larger goal of achieving carbon-neutrality by 2035.

Overall, the collaboration between students, local businesses, and environmental organizations showcases the power of community partnerships in promoting sustainability and teaching valuable life skills in the business world.
