Midland Valley’s softball team entered the field for a Class AAAA elimination game against Easley feeling angry on Wednesday night. The Mustangs were not upset that their season was at stake, but rather, that they had to wait an extra night to play. Due to storms in the area the previous night, the game had been postponed, much to the frustration of Midland Valley. Twenty-four hours later, they channeled that anger into a powerful performance against Easley.
The Mustangs managed a 5-0 victory over Easley, securing at least one more night in their season. Their game was optimistically rescheduled for Thursday night, facing off against Region 4-AAAA rival Airport. Head coach Katie Anderson commented that the team was not ready to give up and was eager to continue playing. It was a do-or-die situation, and the Mustangs were determined to give it their all.
Midland Valley, with a record of 19-6, swiftly took the lead in the first two innings, scoring four runs and establishing a 4-0 advantage. This offensive power was more than sufficient as the pitching and defense of the Mustangs held Easley to just one hit throughout the game. Karley Bedenbaugh delivered a strong performance for five innings, striking out seven batters, while Larue Hicks closed out the game with two perfect innings in relief.
Coach Anderson praised the team’s pitching and defense, emphasizing their exceptional performance on the field. Midland Valley showcased excellent fielding and shut down the opposition whenever they made contact. In addition to their stellar defense, the Mustangs also excelled offensively, racking up 10 hits throughout the game. Bailey Seabolt led the team with a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, contributing a double, two stolen bases, and a run scored.
The victory marked Midland Valley’s second consecutive win in an elimination game. Following a loss to Catawba Ridge, they bounced back with a road victory against Riverside before their impressive performance against Easley. The Mustangs’ determination and resilience were evident as they fought to extend their season against tough competition.
