Lombardy is leading the way in digital transformation, as highlighted during a meeting at the Department for Digital Transformation branch office in the Metropolitan City of Milan. The meeting was part of the “Pa Digitale 2026 Roadshow Lombardy” series, where Alessio Butti, the undersecretary to the presidency of the Council with responsibility for technological innovation, shared the region’s vision and accomplishments in digitalization at a territorial level.

Butti emphasized the importance of collaboration and human relationships in the digital transformation process, noting that local successes contribute to the overall advancement of digital and connected Italy. The focus is on improving the daily lives of citizens through tangible improvements and statistics that reflect progress. The goal is to strengthen the connection between the central government and local territories to enhance services, efficiency, and quality for citizens, aligning with government objectives and the Pnrr.

The meeting in Milan brought together 200 municipal administrators and technicians from the provinces of Milan and Monza Brianza to assess digitalization projects funded by the Pnrr and set new objectives. Significant achievements have already been made, with nearly all municipalities in Milan participating in digital initiatives such as moving to the cloud and adopting digital identities. The province of Monza and Brianza also stands out nationally for its measures in digital health, with full participation from healthcare and hospital companies in Milan.

The provinces of Milan and Monza Brianza rank among the national leaders in electronic identity card issuance, showing high percentages of residents with cards compared to the national average. These achievements reflect the commitment and progress of Lombardy in digital transformation, with substantial funding allocated to healthcare institutions and a focus on improving services and connectivity for citizens.
