Maren Louridas, a sophomore at the Naval Academy, received recognition for her success both on the basketball court and in the classroom this week. She was honored on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, after previously being selected to the 2023-24 Patriot League All-Academic Team. Louridas is one of six student-athletes from the conference to receive this nationwide accolade. As a two-year starter for the Mids, she has played both as a guard and forward, starting 60 of a possible 61 games and scoring 528 points with an average of 8.7 per game. She has also collected 317 rebounds, averaging 5.2 per game. Known for her prowess as a one-on-one defender, Louridas rarely leaves the court, playing 1,017 minutes as a freshman and 927 as a sophomore. Her average of 31.9 minutes per game ranks fifth all-time in Navy’s career record book. After earning a spot on the Patriot League All-Rookie Team last season, she continued to excel in the conference in 2023-24 with the 10th-best rebounding average and the 18th-best steals per game average.

In addition to her success on the court, Louridas is also a standout in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA in cyber operations over her first three semesters at the Naval Academy. She has received three Commandant’s List accolades and was named to the 2022-23 Patriot League Honor Roll. The Navy women’s basketball team had an impressive season, achieving one of the biggest single-season turnarounds in NCAA DI. They increased their win total by 13 games and finished in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Patriot League, just one game out of second place.
