In honor of past memorable Nintendo World Championships events, Nintendo has announced the launch of “Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition” on July 18. The game will feature over 150 speedrun challenges on classic NES games for players of all ages to enjoy. This new edition celebrates the anniversary of the historic competition, first held in 1990 and later repeated in 2015 and 2017. Participants will be able to play iconic NES titles like “Super Mario Bros.,” “The Legend of Zelda,” “Metroid,” Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, and Kirby’s Adventure.
The Quick challenges mode will allow players to set and beat their own personal bests in single challenges, unlocking new challenges and commemorative pins as they progress. For shared fun, there’s also a local Multiplayer mode that supports up to eight participants, perfect for friendly or family challenges. Nintendo Switch Online members will have exclusive access to the Global Tournaments mode, where they can compete in five different challenges weekly and climb global leaderboards.
The highly anticipated “Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Deluxe Set” will also be available on the same day. This exclusive package includes a physical copy of the game, five collectible pins, thirteen NES classic art cards, and a replica of the legendary gold NES Game Pak from the 1990 event. Interested players can register their interest for the Deluxe Set on the My Nintendo Store in Europe.
Nintendo has promised to reveal further details on the Deluxe Set and the game on the “Register Your Interest” page. The launch has generated a lot of excitement among fans, and players are eagerly anticipating the release of this special edition of the game.
