TikTok has introduced a tool that automatically tags content generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) on third-party platforms, in partnership with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). This tool uses metadata-based content credentials technology to provide users with context and information about the AI-generated content they see on the platform, aiming to prevent the spread of false information or misunderstandings.

With the emergence of AI tools capable of creating images and videos easily, such as Imagine from Meta, Firefly from Adobe, and Dall-E from OpenAI, there is a growing need to ensure transparency in content creation on social networks. TikTok’s tool allows users to identify AI-generated content through tags, and it has already been used by over 37 million creators.

In an effort to support transparent content creation practices and help creators express their creativity safely, TikTok will automatically label AI-generated content using third-party platform tools. This includes content created with AI effects provided by TikTok itself, as well as content generated on other platforms like Firefly or Dall-E.

By partnering with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity, TikTok will utilize content credentials technology to identify and label AI-generated content on its platform. The C2PA protocol aims to combat online misinformation and content fraud by enabling publishers, companies, and content creators to incorporate metadata into their visual and audio materials for verification.

TikTok plans to gradually display labeled AI-generated content on its platform as more platforms implement the C2PA protocol. Additionally, the platform will attach C2PA content credentials to content generated internally in the coming months, allowing users to verify when, where, and how the content was edited.

As the first video sharing platform to implement content credentials technology, TikTok is working towards providing transparency and authenticity in content creation. The platform has also joined the Content Authenticity Initiative led by Adobe, further emphasizing its commitment to ensuring trustworthy and genuine content for its global community of creators and users.
