This week marks National Small Business Week, a time when the Small Business Administration in New York is honoring various small businesses in the state. Among these businesses is Comb Grown Mead, a new company based in Auburn that specializes in creating alcoholic beverages using honey that has been fermented with water.

Comb Grown Mead officially opened its doors in the summer of 2023 in Auburn. The owner, Elaina Ferrier, who is a mother of two, started this business venture while she was six months pregnant. Ferrier found the perfect space and partnered with a landlord to bring her dream of owning a meadery to life.

In a statement, Ferrier highlighted the challenges of balancing entrepreneurship with motherhood, acknowledging the presence of cribs and play spaces in business settings. She expressed her admiration for women who manage both work and family responsibilities, emphasizing the dedication required to pursue a dream while juggling various responsibilities.

Ferrier spoke about the rewards of being a business owner and contributing to the local community. She expressed her enthusiasm for networking with other small business owners and being a part of the vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Auburn.
