Newman Regional Health recently celebrated a milestone with its robotic surgery arm, the da Vinci Robot-Assisted Surgical System, reaching its 300th procedure this week. Surgeon Dr. Tim Harris performed both the first and the 300th procedures, highlighting the system’s benefits for patients and the medical staff. The system was installed in June 2022 following approval from the Board of Trustees in December 2021.

According to Dr. Bradon Bitter, having this level of technology in Emporia is an honor, emphasizing the advanced capabilities of the da Vinci system. Surgeons use a control system that eliminates tremors during procedures and allows for precise movements. The surgical arms are equipped with robotic wrists that offer 360-degree movement and a three-dimensional high-definition monitor with up to 10-power magnification, providing enhanced visibility during surgeries.

Currently, the da Vinci system is used for a variety of procedures including general surgery, gall bladder, hernia, prostate, hysterectomies, gynecological procedures, and colorectal surgeries. The system has revolutionized surgical practices at Newman Regional Health, offering improved outcomes for patients and enhancing the capabilities of the medical staff.
