Pant, Dube, and Samson included in India’s T20 World Cup squad

Legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal has made a comeback in the 15-man squad led by Rohit Sharma for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. Along with Chahal, big-hitting Shivam Dube has also earned a place in the squad due to his performances in the IPL. Additionally, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson have been selected for the squad, which was announced on Tuesday.

The squad, led by Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as vice-captain, includes a mix of spin and pace options. Along with Chahal, the spin department features Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. The pace attack comprises of specialists Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, with Hardik and Dube providing seam-bowling options.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had not played any T20 internationals since the 2022 T20 World Cup until they were selected for the recent series against Afghanistan in January 2024. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named as Rohit’s opening partner, while Shubman Gill is among the four reserve players along with Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan.

The 2024 T20 World Cup campaign for India will kick off against Ireland on June 5 in New York, followed by matches against Pakistan, USA, and Canada on June 9, 12, and 15. The squad for the tournament includes a mix of experience and promising young talent, with the hopes of bringing home the title.
