Today marks the second part of the series on DeLaval’s new robotic VMS Solutions Technology, also known as batch milking. The VMS Solutions Manager, Jason French, describes batch milking as a process where cows are milked by robots rather than in a traditional parlor setting. This new approach involves moving cows to a group of robots, acting as a modernized parlor for milking operations.

French highlights the benefits of VMS batch milking, explaining that it allows farmers to stick to a schedule while utilizing robots to consistently milk cows. Unlike human milkers, robots ensure a stable milking process for each cow, even in the absence of workers. By introducing a custom gate system to guide cows to the robots, the atmosphere in the holding area transforms into a more relaxed environment. This helps cows feel more comfortable and at ease as they move freely from robot to robot, unlike in a traditional parlor or rotary system where cows are typically herded together and moved simultaneously. French emphasizes the advantages of this new system for both farmers and cows, promoting efficiency and comfort in the milking process.
