Premier Science Associations Honor Eight Sociologists

On April 29, 2024, in Washington, DC, the American Sociological Association expressed its congratulations to eight sociologists who were recently recognized by premier science associations for their exceptional achievements in the discipline. The American Academy of Arts & Sciences elected six sociologists to its new 2024 cohort of members, acknowledging and celebrating their excellence. These individuals have been invited to join the academy to connect across disciplines and boundaries to advance the common good. The sociologists included in the 2024 cohort of new American Academy of Arts & Sciences members are Deborah Carr from Boston University, Bruce Carruthers from Northwestern University, Prudence Carter from Brown University, Manuel Castells from USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, Adia Harvey Wingfield from Washington University in St. Louis, and Sasha Killewald from the University of Michigan.

Additionally, the American Association for the Advancement of Science recognized two sociologists in its latest class of fellows for their distinguished efforts in advancing science or applying it for the benefit of society. The sociologists included in the 2024 cohort of new American Association for the Advancement of Science fellows are Michelle J. Budig from the University of Massachusetts and Kathryn Yount from Emory University.

The American Sociological Association, established in 1905, is a nonprofit membership association committed to serving sociologists in their work, advancing sociology as a science and profession, and promoting the contributions and utilization of sociology by society.
