Seventeen Bearcats Awarded Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholarships

David Cohen serves as the Director of Strategic Brand Engagement. A total of seventeen University of Cincinnati student-athletes have been recognized with Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards, presented by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. Eleven of the honorees are women’s student-athletes, with basketball and soccer leading the way with three each. The awards aim to honor students of color who have excelled both academically and athletically. Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr.’s dedication to education and love for tennis, U.S. colleges and universities nominate their outstanding sports scholars for this annual awards program. In addition to their athletic and academic achievements, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars also demonstrate commitment to community service and student leadership.

Among the honorees are student-athletes from football, men’s basketball, men’s swimming and diving, men’s track and field, women’s basketball, lacrosse, soccer, women’s swimming and diving, women’s track and field, and volleyball. Some of the notable honorees include Jordan Young and Ken Willis from football, Viktor Lakhin from men’s basketball, Gal Ido and Brogan Robinson from men’s swimming and diving, and Camden Beatty from men’s track and field.

Other honorees include Jillian Hayes, Mya Jackson, and Malea Williams from women’s basketball, Dani Mlkvy from lacrosse, Brooke Brown, Kendall Battle, and Vyviene Spaulding from soccer, Mia Hensley from women’s swimming and diving, Anaya Dees and Faith Kingsley from women’s track and field, and Shaye Eggleston from volleyball. Each of these student-athletes has showcased excellence both on and off the field.
