The Special Olympics of Southern California (SOSC) recently held their San Luis Obispo Spring Sports Expo at Cuesta College, attracting over 600 athletes for a day of competition. This was the second consecutive year that the school hosted this event. The festivities began at 9:45 a.m. with a parade of athletes, singing of the national anthem, reciting of the pledge of allegiance, and more.
The competitions, which included track and field, basketball, and bocce, took place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event received strong support from local law enforcement, approximately 40 schools in San Luis Obispo County, and over 700 community members who came out to cheer on the athletes.
Special Olympics awards announcer Scott Cusick expressed his admiration for the athletes, highlighting their determination and perseverance in the face of challenges. He mentioned how inspiring it was to see them push through and strive for excellence.
