The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against seven terror suspects who planned attacks in Germany in the name of the “Islamic State”. The suspects, including individuals from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan, are accused of founding a domestic terrorist organization and supporting the IS. They are also alleged to have violated the Foreign Trade Act. The group is said to have had connections with the IS branch “Islamic State Khorasan Province” and had been collecting money to support terrorist activities abroad.

The suspects are believed to have entered Germany from Ukraine shortly after the start of the war in spring 2022. They formed a terrorist organization with the intention of carrying out attacks in Germany and other Western European countries. The group allegedly met regularly to plan their attacks, scouted out potential targets, and had a concrete attack plan in place before being apprehended by law enforcement agencies.

The suspects are said to have known each other for a long time and shared radical Islamic views. They had been collecting money for IS terrorists abroad and had been in contact with members of ISPK. The GSG-9 accessed the terrorist cell in multiple locations in Germany and made arrests in the Netherlands as well. Despite the arrest, a concrete attack had not yet been carried out.
