Texas Instruments is a well-known company famous for its computers and semiconductors. However, many people may not realize that the Dallas-based business has also made significant contributions to the movie industry. The company’s DLP (Digital Light Projection) technology has played a crucial role in changing the movie-going experience.

DLP Cinema Senior Assistant Architect, Tim Ryan, explained how the technology works by showcasing a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) chip developed 25 years ago at Texas Instruments. This chip uses light projected onto tiny mirrors to reflect brighter and crisper images, transitioning movies from film to digital format.

The impact of Texas Instruments DLP technology is evident in the movie industry, as nine out of every 10 movie theaters worldwide now utilize DLP Cinema. This technology has significantly improved the viewing experience by providing vivid colors and sharp images, transforming the quality of movie projections.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of this groundbreaking technology, Texas Instruments employees came together for a costume contest and gathering at a theater located on the company’s campus. Dressed as their favorite movie characters, employees like Product & Test Manager Griselda Hermosillo embraced the magic that Texas Instruments has brought to the cinema industry.

Overall, Texas Instruments’ DLP technology has been a game-changer in the movie industry, revolutionizing the way films are produced, distributed, and exhibited. The company’s dedication to innovation and continuous improvement has shaped the movie-going experience for audiences worldwide, making it a significant contributor to the entertainment industry.
