Several Liberty athletes, including Omari Lewis and Reese Webster, along with former Flames All-American Alejandro Perlaza Zapata, will be competing in the World Athletics Relays on May 4-5 in Nassau, Bahamas. Lewis will be participating in the Trinidad and Tobago men’s 4 x 100 relay, while Webster will be part of the women’s 4 x 100 team, and Perlaza Zapata will compete in the Colombia mixed 4 x 400 relay. This event will see relay squads from 54 nations vying for Olympic qualifying spots.

The competition will take place over two days, with the top two teams in each heat on day one advancing to the finals on day two. Those teams will secure their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and will also compete for prize money and Olympic lane seeding positions. Other teams will have a chance to qualify for Paris 2024 through an additional round on day two.

The events on May 4 will be televised on Peacock, kicking off with the mixed 4 x 400 heats, followed by the women’s 4 x 100 and men’s 4 x 100 heats. On May 5, races will be televised on both Peacock and CNBC starting at 7:05 p.m. Eastern time. Perlaza Zapata, who has represented Colombia in previous Olympics, will be aiming for his third Olympic appearance in Paris. Lewis and Webster are looking to make their Olympic debuts in the upcoming games.

Following their participation in the World Athletics Relays, Lewis and Reese Webster will have a quick turnaround as they prepare to compete in the CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in El Paso, Texas from May 10-12. Their performances in these events will play a crucial role in their journey to potentially represent their respective nations at the Olympics in Paris.
