A handful of mega-rich donors are emerging as crucial supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, with more than $50 million donated to his campaign against Democratic incumbent Joe Biden. As smaller donations dwindle and some traditional Republican donors distance themselves, these super-rich benefactors are playing a pivotal role in supporting Trump.
The top five major donors to Trump, based on a Reuters analysis of Federal Election Commission data, include heirs to wealthy families like the Mellon banking family. One such donor is an 81-year-old heir to the Mellon family fortune, who has donated millions to pro-Trump Super PACs since 2020.
Another major donor is Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter, former chairman of Marvel Entertainment, who along with his wife has donated millions to Trump-aligned Super PACs. Linda McMahon, former head of the Small Business Administration in the Trump administration, is also a significant donor to Trump’s campaign.
A hotel magnate from Nevada and the major donor of controversial Scientology church are also among the top donors to Trump’s campaign. These donors play a crucial role in providing financial support to Trump’s election campaign and are becoming increasingly vital as traditional sources of funding dwindle.
