Three students receive prestigious national college media business awards

Three student leaders from WKU Student Publications were recognized by College Media Business & Advertising Managers during an awards ceremony on April 19. Emma Bayens, a senior photojournalism major from Louisville, received first place in the Best Multimedia Content Creator category. She is the co-director of Cherry Creative. Rhiannon Johnston, a junior photojournalism and advertising major also from Louisville, received third place in the same category and serves as the video editor for Cherry Creative. Abby Loftus, a senior advertising and strategic communications major from Troy, Illinois, received third place in the Best Sales Representative category and serves as the Student Publications advertising manager.

Talisman is a life and culture magazine that publishes a printed magazine twice a year, a daily updated website at WKUTalisman.com, and a weekly email newsletter. Founded as a yearbook in 1924, College Heights Herald is a news organization that publishes a daily email newsletter, maintains a 24/7 website at WKUHerald.com, and produces a monthly enterprise newsmagazine. Student Publications Advertising is a sales team that collaborates with clients seeking to reach the WKU community and was established in 1925 alongside the Herald. Cherry Creative is a branded content studio assisting clients in crafting messages to target the WKU community through various publication platforms, special sections, and events. Launched in 2018, it is the newest division of WKU Student Publications.

The student staffs of Student Publications Advertising and Cherry Creative work together to generate advertising revenue that funds the operations of student publications.
