UC Davis Health honored for being a leader in LGBTQ+ healthcare equity.

UC Davis Medical Center has once again been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, marking the 13th consecutive year that the organization has received this honor. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is a leading civil rights organization advocating for equality for LGBTQ+ individuals.

Hendry Ton, associate vice chancellor for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at UC Davis Health, expressed pride in the designation, emphasizing the health system’s commitment to serving LGBTQ+ patients, employees, and communities. UC Davis Health was one of 384 healthcare facilities out of 1,065 participating in the HEI 2024 survey to receive a top score of 100 and earn the title of “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader.”

The criteria used to score HEI survey participants includes foundational elements of non-discrimination policy implementation and training, patient services and support, employee benefits and policies, patient and community engagement, and responsible citizenship. UC Davis has a long-standing reputation for creating an inclusive environment that does not discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

As an Anchor Institution, UC Davis Health plays a significant role in delivering culturally competent care to its patients and the community at large. The Office for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at UC Davis Health provides employees with professional development and training opportunities to ensure a culturally aware staff that upholds the health system’s commitment to health equity.

Ton emphasized the importance of prioritizing health equity and inclusivity at UC Davis Health, highlighting the organization’s dedication to providing quality care to all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
