Vice President Kamala Harris Welcomes Women’s Sports Leaders, Owners, and Athletes, Including Billie Jean King

Vice President Kamala Harris recently hosted a gathering of some of the most influential women in sports at her residence. The event, held in honor of Women’s History Month, was a collaboration with the Women’s Sports Foundation and featured a diverse group of guests including league commissioners, team owners, athletic directors, and athletes. Among the attendees was WSF founder Billie Jean King, who also offered remarks during the celebration.

During her speech, Harris emphasized the importance of providing equitable opportunities in sports for young women. She spoke about the impact that the work of the attendees has on people of all genders and shared advice from her mother, who encouraged her to be a trailblazer and pave the way for others to follow. Harris urged the women in attendance to define themselves and not let others dictate their worth.

Some of the notable guests at the event included Paralympian and Women’s Sports Foundation President, Scout Bassett; National Women’s Soccer League Commissioner, Jessica Berman; Las Vegas Aces President, Nikki Fargas; Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner, Darcie Kassewitz; North Carolina Courage President, Francie Gottsegen; and Atlanta Dream owner, Renee Montgomery. Many of the attendees took selfies at Harris’ residence to commemorate the special day.

The gathering of powerful women in sports served as a testament to the progress that has been made in the world of athletics and the ongoing fight for gender equality. Harris’ celebration of Women’s History Month highlighted the importance of empowering women in all fields, including sports, and inspiring the next generation of female leaders.
