A voting technology company named Smartmatic has settled a defamation lawsuit with a conservative news outlet related to bogus fraud claims surrounding the 2020 presidential election. The settlement was reached on Tuesday between Smartmatic, based in Florida, and One America News Network. This settlement is part of a larger legal pushback by voting equipment companies who were caught up in false conspiracy theories alleging that they had manipulated votes and impacted the results of the election, costing former President Donald Trump a reelection.

The news outlet, One America News Network, stated that they typically do not comment on legal matters and did not provide any further response to the settlement. Smartmatic’s technology was only used in Los Angeles County, a Democratic stronghold in a state that was not a key battleground for the presidential election. This settlement is a significant development in the ongoing legal battles between voting technology companies and media outlets over the spread of misinformation and defamation related to the 2020 election.
