Wisconsin’s short-term industry employment projections for 2023-25 show that the state’s workforce and economy are expected to continue growing significantly. The data indicates that Wisconsin has made a remarkable recovery from the impact of COVID-19, with employment levels fully restored by the second quarter of 2023. According to projections by DWD’s state labor economists, the state is projected to create 82,867 new jobs and experience a 2.47% growth across all industries during this period, with computer and mathematical occupations growing at the fastest rate. The projections also anticipate growth in employment across various industry sectors.

DWD Secretary Amy Pechacek stated that the economic projections for Wisconsin show broad growth and low unemployment levels, with employment now higher than it was before the pandemic. The projections suggest that this growth will continue across all industries, highlighting the positive outlook for the state’s economy. In response to this growth, workforce programs and initiatives are being advanced to connect job seekers and employers to maximize the benefits of the expanding economy.

The leisure and hospitality industry, which experienced a significant decline in employment during the pandemic, is expected to lead in employment growth in the 2023-25 projections, with a growth rate of 5.25% and 15,342 new jobs. DWD’s chief economist Dennis Winters emphasized the importance of this sector in Wisconsin’s economy and expressed optimism for its future as it bounces back from the challenges faced during the pandemic.

Healthcare employment also played a crucial role in the state’s economic recovery, with projections showing that the education and health services sector will soon surpass pre-pandemic employment levels. Additionally, the Healthcare Support occupational group is among the top three groups to exceed pre-pandemic levels in 2023. DWD economists work closely with state and local partners to analyze and understand workforce development trends and challenges, providing long-term and short-term employment projections across various industries and occupations in Wisconsin.
