DWD Secretary Amy Pechacek stated that the economic projections for Wisconsin show broad growth and low unemployment levels, with employment now higher than it was before the pandemic. The leisure and hospitality industry, which experienced a significant decline in employment during the pandemic, is expected to lead in employment growth in the 2023-25 projections, with a growth rate of 5.25% and 15,342 new jobs. DWD’s chief economist Dennis Winters emphasized the importance of this sector in Wisconsin’s economy and expressed optimism for its future as it bounces back from the challenges faced during the pandemic.
Healthcare employment also played a crucial role in the state’s economic recovery, with projections showing that the education and health services sector will soon surpass pre-pandemic employment levels. Additionally, the Healthcare Support occupational group is among the top three groups to exceed pre-pandemic levels in 2023.
