The Skytrax World Airport Awards are based on customer satisfaction surveys and rank airports around the world. In recent years, the top contenders for the title of “world’s best airport” have been Doha’s Hamad International and Singapore Changi, with Singapore holding the title for 12 consecutive years. However, in 2024, Hamad International surpassed Singapore Changi to claim the top spot.

For Asia, Seoul Incheon Airport secured third place and was also named the most family-friendly airport of 2024. Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita airports took fourth and fifth place respectively. Hong Kong Airport saw a significant increase in ranking, moving up 22 positions to 11th place as passenger numbers rebounded after the impact of Covid-19.

US airports did not fare well in the rankings, with even the highest-ranked one, Seattle-Tacoma, slipping six places to 24th. European airports had a strong showing, with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Zurich, and Istanbul maintaining positions in the top 10. Some other notable movements in the rankings included New York’s JFK falling to 93rd place, London Heathrow moving up one spot to 21st, and Japan’s Okinawa making the biggest leap from 199th to 91st place.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Badr Al Meer, expressed honor at Hamad International Airport being voted the Best Airport in the World for the third time, especially as the airport celebrates its 10th year of operation. The list of top airports in 2024 also included Dubai, Rome Fiumicino, Vienna, and Madrid-Barajas among others.
