The Baku Court of Serious Crimes has sentenced Iranian citizen Mohammad Gaedi to 12 years in prison on charges of espionage. Gaedi was arrested in March last year, and the National Security Service of Azerbaijan claims that he collected information containing state secrets on the instructions of a foreign state’s special services. This was to the detriment of the security of Azerbaijan, including obtaining personal data about Azerbaijani law enforcement officers and establishing personal contacts to involve them in cooperation.

The case highlights the serious consequences of engaging in espionage activities that threaten national security. Gaedi’s actions were deemed to have compromised the security of Azerbaijan and its law enforcement officers. The court’s decision to sentence him to 12 years in prison sends a strong message about the severe repercussions of such behavior.

The case also underscores the importance of maintaining vigilance against espionage activities, especially in the context of international relations. The fact that Gaedi was working on behalf of a foreign state’s special services highlights the need for continued monitoring and enforcement measures to safeguard national security. By holding individuals like Gaedi accountable for their actions, authorities can deter future attempts to undermine the security of the country.
