Today’s two-sol plan for Curiosity rover on Mars is focused on targeted remote sensing, imaging, and CheMin analysis of the Gobabeb #6 sample. The rover is situated on the east side of the Naukluft Plateau, where researchers are aiming to gain a better understanding of the local stratigraphy and diagenetic features in the area.

During the first sol, the plan includes ChemCam and Mastcam observations of targets named “Uniab” and “Tumas.” Following these observations, the rover will capture images of the surrounding area to prepare for potential contact science activities in the upcoming weekend. The second sol will begin with an early morning science block dedicated to atmospheric monitoring observations.

Sol 1272 will also involve CheMin analysis of a sample obtained back at Namib dune. In the afternoon, Curiosity will work on acquiring a long-distance RMI mosaic of Peace Vallis while continuing to monitor atmospheric opacity and study the sky above Mount Sharp.

Overall, the rover’s activities for these two sols are aimed at gathering valuable data through remote sensing, imaging, and analysis to further researchers’ understanding of the Martian terrain and geological features in the region.
