Starting May 9, 2024, TikTok will be implementing automatic labeling for content created by artificial intelligence when it is uploaded from certain platforms. This new initiative is aimed at curbing the spread of misinformation on the popular social media platform.

Adam Presser, TikTok’s Head of Operations & Trust and Safety, highlighted the excitement among users and creators about the potential of AI to enhance creativity and audience connections. However, the platform also recognizes the importance of distinguishing between fact and fiction in content shared on TikTok.

Previously, TikTok had encouraged users to voluntarily label content that had been generated or heavily edited using AI. The platform also required users to label any AI-generated content that featured realistic images, audio, or video. By automatically labeling AI-created content from specific platforms, TikTok hopes to provide users with more transparency and context when consuming content on the platform.
