Rising scientists in the Bronx showcased their discoveries at an annual science fair hosted at the New York Institute for Special Education. The event catered to visually impaired students from preschool to 12th grade who have been engaged in conducting research, collecting data, and building projects on topics such as solar energy, invisible ink, and slime since February. The theme of this year’s fair was “chemical reaction,” with all displays presented in braille format.

Participants like 11th grade student Nestor Alfonso expressed their enthusiasm for the fair, highlighting the opportunity it provides for visually impaired students to engage in activities typically offered in public schools. Alfonso noted that being able to participate in the science fair despite their visual impairment was a rewarding experience for all involved.
