Former free agent running back J.K. Dobbins, who played four seasons under John Harbaugh, will now be playing for Jim Harbaugh in 2024. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Dobbins has signed a one-year contract with the Chargers, reuniting him with former Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman in Los Angeles. Dobbins recently returned to football activities after completing his rehab from a torn Achilles in Week 1. Throughout his career, injuries have been a recurring issue for him.

After a successful season in 2020 where he rushed for 805 yards and nine touchdowns as a second-round pick, Dobbins suffered a torn ACL in training camp in 2021. This injury caused him to miss the entire season as well as the first two games of the 2022 season. Another knee injury sidelined him for an additional six weeks during the 2022 season. Despite these setbacks, Dobbins has only been able to play in 24 out of a possible 67 games in his career, accumulating 1,347 yards and 12 touchdowns on 234 carries with an average of 5.8 yards per carry.

The Chargers currently have Gus Edwards, Isaiah Spiller, Elijah Dotson, and Jaret Patterson on their depth chart at the running back position. Dobbins’ addition to the team adds depth and experience to their running back group as they prepare for the upcoming season.
