Abu Dhabi Ports Group has recently finalized agreements with Unicargas and Multiparks, leading to a 20-year concession agreement with the Luanda Ports Authority to modernize and operate the Luanda Multi-Purpose Terminal in Angola. As part of these agreements, Abu Dhabi Ports Group acquired stakes in joint ventures with these Angolan companies, with plans to invest $251 million in modernizing the terminal and developing a logistics center over the next three years.

The Port of Luanda is a crucial sea gateway in Angola, handling a significant portion of the country’s containers and general cargo. With expectations of growth in container handling volumes, Abu Dhabi Ports Group aims to transform the terminal into a modern facility that can support the region’s economic development. The location of the port allows it to cater to the increasing trade demands of landlocked countries in the region.

Through collaborations with local partners and government stakeholders, Abu Dhabi Ports Group is committed to enhancing the infrastructure and logistics capabilities of the Port of Luanda. The goal is to attract global shipping lines and provide efficient services that benefit the economies of Angola and its partners. The partnerships aim to facilitate access to global trade markets and contribute to the economic growth of the region.

One of the key aspects of the concession agreement is the major modernization of the multi-purpose terminal to accommodate container and vehicle handling operations. The redevelopment project will expand the concession area, upgrade quay walls and equipment, and deepen submersible depths to enhance operational efficiency. Upon completion, the terminal is expected to significantly increase its handling volumes for containers and vehicles, supporting the region’s trade activities.

In addition to the terminal redevelopment, Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s joint venture with Unicargas will provide integrated logistics and shipping services to local and international customers. The venture aims to enhance business efficiency by investing in new equipment, upgrading IT systems, and providing comprehensive supply chain solutions. By leveraging global expertise and local capabilities, the partnership seeks to optimize logistics operations and contribute to the growth of the maritime sector in Angola.

Overall, the agreements with Unicargas and Multiparks signify a strategic partnership between Abu Dhabi Ports Group and Angolan stakeholders to drive economic development, enhance infrastructure, and promote trade in the Central West Africa region. With a focus on modernization, efficiency, and collaboration, the initiatives aim to create lasting benefits for the local economy and stakeholders involved in the maritime and logistics sectors in Angola.
