Italian video gamers are predominantly men, totaling 8 million (61%), with an average age of 30. Female gamers make up 4.9 million (38%), with an average age of 31. Additionally, there are 0.1 million people who identify as neither women nor men, a statistic reported for the first time in 2023.
Mobile devices are the most widely used by gamers in Italy, with 9.2 million primarily playing Brain/Puzzle, Trivia, and Role Playing/Strategy games. Consoles follow closely, with 5.6 million gamers focusing on Sports, Racing, and Shooter genres. PCs have 4.6 million gamers who prefer Strategy, Shooter, and Sports titles. On average, gamers in Italy play for approximately 6.53 hours per week, a decrease from the previous year, likely due to the resumption of post-pandemic activities.
In 2023, the hardware segment of the gaming market in Italy saw a record increase of 63%, reaching a value of 487 million euros. Sales of accessories also grew by 46% to 178 million euros. Software remains the most substantial segment of the market, with an estimated value of 1.6 billion euros, accounting for 71% of the total market. New video game purchases increased by 6% compared to the previous year, with 777 million euros in revenue split between physical and digital sales.
