LAPS Students Showcase Excellence at the New Mexico State Science and Engineering Fair – Los Alamos Reporter

Students from Los Alamos Public Schools recently participated in the 2024 New Mexico State Science and Engineering Fair at New Mexico Tech in Socorro. A total of 19 students represented Los Alamos at the competition. County Science Fair Director Eva Abeyta commended the students for their hard work and expressed pride in their representation of Los Alamos. Two students from Los Alamos High School, Helena Welch and Tate Plohr, qualified to attend the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles in May.

At the state fair, students from various divisions received awards for their outstanding projects. In the Junior Division, students like Andres Trujillo, Ellen White, Nora Whitton, James Work, Natan Svyatsky, John Fung, Linus Plohr, Kalliope Welch, and Patrick Avery were recognized for their achievements. Special awards were also given to students like Linus Plohr, Ellen White, Jane Smith, Benjamin Minko, Brandon Keller, and others. In the Senior Division, students Helena Welch, Tate Plohr, Brayden Allen, and others received awards for their projects on mathematics, physics & astronomy, and special categories like climate change and greenhouse gas reduction.
