Kai Tak Sports Park Limited and ASM Global have announced a late-winter testing period for Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park. The $4B, multi-venue sports district project has taken nearly a decade to complete and is scheduled to open in early 2025. The centerpiece of the nearly 70-acre district is Kai Tak Stadium, a 50,000-seat venue with a retractable roof and flexible playing surface. It is surrounded by a 10,000-capacity indoor sports arena and a 5,000-spectator public sports ground for school sports days and athletic events.

ASM Global has been handling project management, premium sales, and programming for the past five years and will operate the district once it opens. Populous master planned the district and provided designs for the venues, while Simon Kwan & Associates is the architect of record. The precinct is designed around the Kai Tak Sports Avenue, an indoor/outdoor thoroughfare that connects the venues and includes various amenities such as restaurants, retail shops, jogging trails, and a health and wellness center.

The district will also feature an international-standard bowling center with 40 lanes for hosting international tournaments and a climbing wall on Sports Avenue. Sustainability is a focus, with solar panels on each facility, green roofscapes integrated into the design, and an extensive network of electric charging stations throughout the district. Smart city initiatives include an intelligent building and car management system, Wi-Fi hotspots, an indoor positioning system, and mobile applications for booking facilities and wayfinding within the precinct.
