Mahnomen Health Center to End Inpatient Hospital Services

Mahnomen Health officials have announced their intention to discontinue inpatient hospital services at their facility in Mahnomen. The plan is to transition from a critical access hospital to a rural emergency hospital, which will no longer offer inpatient services or swing beds. However, the facility will still provide outpatient services and emergency care to the community.

According to a report in the Star Tribune, this decision is being made in response to financial difficulties in order to keep the center operational. The Minnesota Department of Health will be holding a public hearing on April 30 at 6 p.m. to discuss Mahnomen Health Center’s transition to a rural emergency hospital.

During the hearing, hosted by MDH’s Health Regulation Division, community members will have the opportunity to voice their thoughts on the change and explore alternative options for patients who currently rely on Mahnomen Health Center for care. If this transition does occur, the nearest full-service hospitals to Mahnomen would be around 30 miles away in Fosston or Ada, with the closest regional hospital located approximately 35 miles away in Detroit Lakes.

Those interested in participating in the meeting can do so through the Microsoft Teams event link provided or by calling 651-395-7448 and using the access code 898 653 172#. More details about the meeting can be found on the MDH website.
