Fiesta has returned to San Antonio, bringing delicious food and drinks to the Alamo City. However, it is important to ensure that what you are consuming is safe for your health. A KSAT crew followed inspectors from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District to see how they ensure food safety at Fiesta events.

Deborah Liu, an environmental health officer with Metro Health, highlighted the risks of consuming unsafe food. She emphasized that food that may seem fine at first could actually be dangerous if it does not meet temperature requirements. Inspectors closely monitor vendors at every Fiesta event to ensure that food is properly stored, vendors are following hygiene protocols, and there are adequate handwashing and sanitation stations available.

If an inspector finds any violations, vendors are given the opportunity to correct them immediately. Failure to comply can result in the vendor losing their permit and being shut down. It is important for attendees to be vigilant and report any concerns they have about food safety by calling 311.
