The Morningside University School of Agriculture and Aviation in Sioux City, Iowa will be introducing a new animal science minor in the fall of 2024. This minor will provide students interested in animal health and welfare with expanded career opportunities. The addition of animal science reflects the university’s commitment to offering academic programs that align with the needs of the Siouxland region.

Dr. Chris Spicer, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Morningside University, is excited about the new minor and believes it will provide students with valuable interdisciplinary study options. The goal is to prepare students for successful and meaningful careers.

Dr. Tom Paulsen, dean of the School of Agriculture and Aviation, emphasized the hands-on learning experiences and partnerships with local and regional agricultural organizations that will be available to students in the animal science minor. The curriculum is designed to cover animal biology, ethics, and the role of technology in animal science. Through externships, lab work, and collaboration with professionals in the field, students will be well-equipped for their future careers.

The animal science minor is designed to complement a variety of majors at Morningside University, allowing students to tailor their education to their career goals. The new minor is also a testament to recent enhancements within the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department, such as the Rosen Ag Center and Lags Farm.

Prospective students who are interested in the animal science minor can contact the Morningside University Admissions Office for more information. Additionally, the university’s animal science webpage provides details on the minor, course requirements, and how to apply.
